An unprecedented challenge

We know that the challenge we are facing is enormous: In 2050 the world population will increase to almost 10 thousand million people.

This will not only escalate the demand for food, but also aggravate the problem we are already facing about food security and raise the number of people suffering malnutrition and hunger in the world. In 2020, according to the FAO, between 720 and 811 million people suffered from hunger.

Aware of our role

We are also aware of the climate crisis and our role in it: agriculture and related land uses account for one-quarter of greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to that, we will have to deal with the consequences of rising global temperatures, changing temperature patterns, water shortages and new pests and diseases on crops.

This challenge is a big opportunity for us

Rather than discouraging us, this is an opportunity for us:

  • To be part of the change, working together with other organizations and governments.
  • To learn more about our mistakes and find solutions.
  • To value farmers and their crops as they deserve.
  • To analyze and mitigate the impact of our actions.
  • To support a fair, healthy and sustainable food system.

This challenge is a big opportunity for us

What actions do we take?
  • We separate waste at production plants and ensure that it is properly managed.
  • We publicly communicate our carbon footprint and plan actions to reduce it.
  • 90% of our machinery has AdBlue to reduce emissions of harmful gases.
  • We are members of the SIGFITO integrated packaging waste management system, which allows us to recycle plastic packaging for liquid products.
  • We have adapted a deposit, return and refund system (SDDR in Spanish), which allows us to reuse our packaging and avoid the use of single-use plastics.
  • We encourage the use of by-products as raw materials, with the aim of promoting the circular economy.
